When most people imagine plastic surgeons, they picture someone who pushes others to look perfect. Or someone who encourages patients to get more procedures. Dr. Nicolas Slenkovich takes a unique approach. He does not feel plastic surgery is for everyone and ensures his patients know this.
For Dr. Slenkovich, his ultimate goal is to help patients be happy with themselves. He acknowledges that surgery is not always necessary for this. In other cases, plastic surgery may not help patients reach their goals. Dr. Nicolas Slenkovich has a clear approach to plastic surgery. He says, “I believe that plastic surgery is never the ‘solution,’ never the ‘destination,’ definitely not for everyone, [and] an intensely personal decision.” As part of this, he never pushes patients to have plastic surgery. Instead, he encourages them to follow whatever journey makes the most sense for them. He uses his professional knowledge to make suggestions during patient consultations. Whether or not he recommends plastic surgery depends entirely on the patient. Following the consultation, he may suggest more or less than the patient originally thought. This depends on their goals. As he explains, “other times, I explain that, unfortunately, I don’t feel they will be able to reach their goals or that I don’t feel I can meet their expectations.” Plastic surgery is a major decision, and Dr. Nicolas Slenkovich doesn’t want patients to go into it ill-informed.
His honesty regarding plastic surgery is one of the things that sets Dr. Slenkovich apart from other plastic surgeons. This extends beyond his honesty during consultations. Dr. Slenkovich also developed his social media presence and website to help patients decide if plastic surgery is right for them. He recognizes that this is a personal journey, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Instead of telling patients what to do, he provides them with the tools to make their own decision. He explains, “patients who utilize social media as part of their decision-making process to obtain plastic surgery are more aware of the surgery process.”
Dr. Slenkovich goes beyond acknowledging that plastic surgery isn’t for everyone. He also accepts that his practice won’t be right for everyone who wants a procedure. There needs to be “a potential ‘fit’” between the patient and his practice.
Dr. Nicolas Slenkovich’s vast experience performing plastic surgery has taught him numerous things. He encourages patients to recognize that plastic surgery is not for everyone. If someone is not a good candidate, he will explain why and offer alternatives. For him, success is “earned satisfaction through helping others achieve their goals.” As such, he doesn’t suggest plastic surgery unless it can help patients achieve those goals.
