ASTNT Media: Every 3rd child in India is malnourished, and every 2nd tribal child suffers from malnutrition. The poorest section of society is caught under the vicious cycle of poverty and malnutrition passed on from generation to generation. UN adopted a resolution declaring UN Decade of action on nutrition from 2016 to 2025. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG #2) to zero hunger, aims to end all forms of malnutrition by 2030, making sure all people especially children have access to enough nutritious food all around.
To overcome this, the Indian government launched a national nutrition mission named Poshan Abhiyan in March 2018, launched by the Prime Minister as the Indian government’s flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women and lactating mothers for holistic nutrition.
